Iosif Serafeimidis

I got my BA degree in Computer Engineering form the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Crete (Greece). During my undergrad studies I spent time in the Programming and Algorithms’ Development Laboratory, (PAD Lab) and in the Artificial Intelligence and System Engineering Laboratory, (AISE Lab) where I first came in contact with artificial intelligence and machine learning.
My MA was a double degree collaboration between the Computer Engineering department of TEI of Crete and the Computer vision (VIBOT) department of Université de Bourgogne in Dijon – France where I spend 2 and 1 semesters respectively. During the 4th semester I did my thesis at the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH) in the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory (CBML) under the supervision of the head of the laboratory Marias Kostas, PhD. I developed a system that extracted texture feature vectors from pancreatic MRIs and classified them to cancer and normal appearing tissue.
After I got my MA degree I was hired by the CBML as a researcher and continued working on classifying pancreatic, colon and prostatic MRIs using imaging and machine learning techniques.
I recently joined Arivis AG, as a PhD student of the University of Rostock, aiming to develop new, powerful tracing techniques for obtaining structural information from tree-like structures such as blood vessels, neurons or lungs and use them to help reach the goals of the PI3K-Phd project.
